Environment and Construction.

For this module, we were exploring the composite components of a building and how different materials impact on the sustainability of a building. The lectures were informative in identifying factors to consider when designing and constructing a building.

Tower Design.

For this session, we were tasked with creating a tower that could withstand the weight of a brick. Our team brainstormed and discussed some ideas which led to the creation of our tower. Cuboids were used for the main structure, due to their structural strength. Further structural strength was added through cross braces.  The “lolly pop” sticks were also used to spread the load of the brick at the top of the structure. This session was informative as it taught us about structure and how each part of the structure is important and should not be overlooked.

Gibside - Technical Drawing.

For the second submission, we were tasked to create a detailed section of the structure from Project 1.4. With no prior experience drawing detailed section, this project presented a challenge. Research was undertaken to ascertain the thickness of the selected materials, how they are connected together and how to represent them in a technical drawing.  Following a methodical approach, similar to how the elements would be physically created, the final drawings were produced.
